Vietnamese food · Cocktails & mocktails · Three Portland locations

Trang & Wei-En

Two journeys.
One shared table.

From Saigon and Singapore to a little family of restaurants in Portland.

Trang Nguyen Tan

Chef, entrepreneur & co-owner

Trang Nguyen Tan

Trang was born in Saigon, Vietnam, and immigrated to the United States at thirteen, without knowing English. She graduated from high school in Vancouver, Washington, then attended Washington State University, where her first restaurant job was as a dishwasher.

After college, she traveled the world as a flight attendant for Delta. She went on to become a chef and restaurateur, with Friendship Kitchen featured in Forbes and other food publications. Aviation is another interest she shares with Wei-En, who has also been her flight instructor.

Trang brings boundless optimism and kindness to her work. Her philosophy is to create spaces that are safe and open, cozy and welcoming—places where everyone can feel at home.

Wei-En Tan

Pilot, entrepreneur & co-owner

Wei-En Tan, Ph.D., DipWSET

Born in Singapore, Wei-En’s path has taken her through academia, aviation, technology, and hospitality. Her academic background spans mathematics, economics, political science, and comparative literature, with doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s degrees from Stanford, Cornell, and Harvard.

A commercial pilot in airplanes and helicopters and a certified flight instructor, she has also worked in aerospace, clean energy, and venture capital, and founded a company in AI medical imaging.

Time spent at her family’s vineyards in Bordeaux and Burgundy gave her a grounding in viticulture, minimal intervention, and respect for terroir. That expertise informs Stem Wine Bar’s “Oregon meets the world” approach: an invitation to explore wines through flights and by-the-glass selections, without judgment or pretension.

A place to eat well, try something new, and feel like you belong.
